About Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge is a "loi 1901" (i.e. not-for-profit) association created in January 2011 to offer on-the-ground support to non-professional theatrical groups from outside France bringing English language theatre to Paris.

While our objectives permit us to offer such support to any such groups, the prime intention that led to TOWER BRIDGE being established was our wish to give practical assistance to the Tower Theatre Company, who come to Paris every summer to present a Shakespeare play in the open-air Théâtre de Verdure du jardin Shakespeare at Pré Catelan in the Bois de Boulogne.

The year 2011 marked the twentieth anniversary of the Tower Theatre Company’s outdoor performances in Paris.  The high quality of their productions brings enormous pleasure to English speaking theatre lovers living in the Paris region, to many French theatre-goers who appreciate the chance to see Shakespeare plays in English (with French sub-titles) and provides an important and widely used opportunity for French school pupils and college students studying English to see the plays. Shakespeare is extremely popular in France.

The Tower Theatre Company are based in London and stage some 18 theatrical productions per year, mainly in London but also elsewhere in the UK and overseas. More information is available on their website.

The support we give them here includes taking telephone bookings for the plays (these can now also be made on-line with payment in euros via the Tower Bridge bank account - see our bookings page); the use of our euro bank account for receiving and making payments in euros on behalf of the Theatre Company; publicity; liaison with the Mairie de Paris when necessary; finding volunteers when they are needed in Paris; dealing with third parties on Tower Theatre Company’s behalf, etc.

All the Tower Theatre Company’s supporters are welcome to become members of Tower Bridge, for more information please see our membership page.

Tower Bridge is a member of the British Community Committee, for more information on the British Community Committee and the activities of its member organisations, visit their website.
